2 Nigerians arrested in Thailand after cocaine discovery
Thai immigration officials have arrested two Nigerian men after discovering about six grammes of cocaine concealed in their apartment in Pattaya, Chon Buri Province.
The suspects, aged 25 and 29, were apprehended during a raid on their shared accommodation following a tip-off that one of them was allegedly living in Thailand illegally, according to a report by The Thaiger.
The officers reportedly searched the apartment for more than 20 minutes before discovering five small packages of cocaine wrapped in black tape and hidden inside a cooker hood.
“Officers found two Nigerian men, aged 25 and 29. Immigration checks showed that one was staying in Thailand illegally, while the other had entered the country on a tourist visa.
“The room was searched for more than 20 minutes before officers found five small packages of cocaine wrapped in black tape and hidden inside the cooker hood. The drugs weighed around six grammes in total and were seized as evidence,” the report stated.
Preliminary urine tests conducted on the two men reportedly showed traces of drugs in one suspect, while the other tested negative.
During questioning, the suspects claimed they obtained the cocaine from an acquaintance who lived on their street in Pattaya. They also said they had yet to pay for the substance.
The men reportedly maintained that the cocaine was intended for personal consumption and denied any plan to sell it.
“Both men were taken to Pattaya City Police Station for further legal proceedings while officers expanded the investigation into the supply network,” it added.
The authorities are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the discovery and the alleged source of the cocaine.
